FORT MILL, SC – (January 11, 2010) – Continental Tire will sponsor the “Alive at 25” safe driving course at two Fort Mill, SC high schools on February 6, 2010. Nation Ford and Fort Mill High School will send 200 seniors each to the one day course. Continental Tire the Americas has contributed a $14,000 scholarship to South Carolina National Safety Council to make this program available to our local high school students.

“Alive at 25” is a survival course developed by the National Safety Council, and is designed to prevent the #1 killer of teens – automobile crashes. The program is taught by off-duty deputy sheriffs and municipal police officers. “Alive at 25” is delivered in one 4 ˝-hour session, focusing on the behaviors and decision-making processes that young drivers and passengers display behind the wheel.

This program is designed to change situations like the pair of deadly crashes within nine days of one another that took the lives of two Nation Ford students. The Fort Mill School Board has made Alive at 25 a mandatory class.

“This is just one way that Continental Tire can give something back to our local community,” said Matthias Schoenberg, president, Continental Tire North America, Inc. “Our hearts go out to the families who have lost children to automobile wrecks, and we sincerely hope this program will help prevent any more needless and tragic deaths.”
